Crucial Travel Regulation to Enter Egypt

On May 2, 2022, The US government stated that there are some parts of Egypt you shouldn’t visit. Some of them are the Sinai Peninsula, the western desert, and the Egyptian border areas. But the other parts of the country are safer and you are allowed to visit the country.

However, before booking any tour package and a flight to the country, it is crucial to learn about these rules and make sure you understand every single regulation so that your trip to Egypt will be smooth.

1. Passport requirements

All US visitors who are going to visit Egypt must have a passport with six months validity and at least one blank page before flying to Egypt. Then all visitors from the US or the other countries must get tourist visas in order to enjoy their vacation in Egypt.

You can get a single entry tourist visa for 30 days on your arrival at the Egyptian airports. The fee to get this renewable tourist visa will be 25 USD. Or you can also get the multiple entry visa by preparing 60 USD to pay the fee. The Egyptian government now has a specific website called for a tourist visa.

Access the website and you will be able to get your tourist visa before you start traveling to Egypt. The fee offered by this website is a normal fee since it is an official website of the government of Egypt.

2. Entry from Israel

Visitors who are going to enter Egypt from Israel must get a tourist visa in advance before reaching the Taba border. If you don’t get your tourist visa before your arrival, there will be two options available. The first option is getting a 14-day tourist visa for free but this visa will only be valid for trips within Sinai.

Another option is you get a tourist visa for 30 days that will be valid for a trip throughout Egypt. But this visa won’t be free. You need to pay 25 USD for this visa. Your 30-day tourist visa requires the submission of a support letter from your travel agency.

You can get the support letter from your travel agents at the Taba border. However, the fee for this service to follow the travel regulation to enter Egypt varies, based on the travel company.

3. Medical requirements

All US citizens who arrive from any area that is infected with harmful diseases like yellow fever are required to provide valid proof of immunizations. And since the world has been infected by Covid, all tourists who are going to enter Egypt must be able to show negative Covid test results.

All travelers from around the world are allowed to enter Egypt as long as they can show their Covid-19 test report with a negative result on it. You can also show your vaccination proof in order to enter the country. Here are some detailed requirements to enter Egypt related to the pandemic.

  • Travelers can enter the country if they can show their acceptable proof of complete Covid vaccination.
  • Unvaccinated travelers can still enter the country if they have been tested negative recently. Those unvaccinated travelers must be able to show the negative PCR tests they got within 72 of departure.
  • Those travelers who are going to visit Egypt and the other wonderful cities there are required to submit their vaccination details or negative test details digitally. Submission should be done at least two days before the travelers start the trip to Egypt.
  • Travelers who arrive in the coastal governorates of Red Sea, South Sinai, as well as Marsa Matrouh are allowed to take a Covid test on arrival and must isolate themselves while waiting for the results. The cost for this test will be 30 USD.
  • If the travelers are found to be positive, they must be isolated in a dedicated area for 14 days before traveling to public places in Egypt.

Since vaccination proof and negative PCR tests are now as crucial as visas, you need to prepare your negative test or vaccination before leaving your country. If any country you are about to enter allows you to submit your negative test or vaccination proof, you should do it two days before the trip starts.

This way, your plan to travel around Egypt will be smoother. Though you have submitted the test or vaccination proof, it is crucial to get both of them ready. If the immigration officer in Egypt insists that you need to show them, you will be ready and you can enjoy your vacation more comfortable.

4. Leave your drone at home

The government of Egypt stated that the importation of drones of all types, including the small civilian ones you are about to use for touristic or personal purposes is strictly prohibited. The potential penalties for those violating this rule are harsh. If you don’t want the government to catch you, don’t bring your drone.

In fact, a law that was recently passed by the government authorizes the death penalty for anyone using a drone to support any terrorist activity. If you want to enjoy your trip in Egypt comfortably and smoothly, don’t even think of bringing your drone. Use your camera or phone instead, it is much safer and cheaper.
